It’s hard to remember when you last got your flu vaccination, when the next dose of your multiple-dose vaccination is, or what other kinds of shots you need for a specific trip.

Leave your vaccinations to Speedoc and let us schedule them for you. We can advise on what vaccinations are needed, arrange a house call to administer the vaccinations at your convenience, and remind you when your next dose is due.

Why Are Vaccinations Recommended For Adults?

Everyone needs vaccines - even adults. Getting vaccinated trains your immune system to fight the disease, developing antibodies that will remember the disease and how to fight it the next time it enters your body again.

Vaccinations help you develop immunity against diseases without having to get sick first, sparing you from the discomfort that comes from being sick and protects you from falling seriously ill and developing complications.

Why Is It Important To Get Up-To-Date Vaccinations?

Staying up-to-date on your vaccinations is one of the simplest but most effective ways to keep yourself and your family healthy. Getting immunised gives you protection against infectious diseases and potentially life-threatening conditions.

While you may have gotten vaccinated before, the effects wear off with time and makes you increasingly vulnerable to infections as time goes by. Receiving regular vaccinations ensures that you are consistently protected.

What Kind of Vaccinations Do I Need?

When it comes to vaccines, the first type that comes to mind is probably the influenza vaccine. This vaccine, recommended to be taken annually, protects against the common flu and reduces the rate of flu-related hospitalisations.

It may sound like an exaggeration that you could be hospitalised due to the flu, but about 14% of adults hospitalised between 2018 and 2019 were diagnosed with influenza. This vaccine is especially recommended for the following groups:

  • Adults over 65

  • Children and adolescents up to 18 years old and receiving long-term aspirin therapy

  • People who are immunocompromised

  • People receiving care at intermediate or long-term care facilities (e.g. nursing home residents)

  • Women who are pregnant (regardless of pregnancy stage)

  • People with chronic conditions like diabetes or heart disease

That being said, the influenza vaccine is not the only vaccine you need. Pneumococcal vaccines are also recommended for adults over 65, chronic condition patients and the immunocompromised. For females, there is also the HPV vaccine that is recommended for those between the ages of 18 and 26.

Vaccinations are especially important for chronic disease patients as you have weaker immune systems and therefore are more at risk of developing complications from any infections that could have been prevented with vaccinations. At Speedoc, we offer flu and pneumonia vaccines, which are recommended for chronic condition patients.

All other vaccines under the National Adult Immunisation Schedule are also available.

Vaccinations for the Whole Family

Now that the adults in the family have been vaccinated, don’t forget about your little ones as well. Speedoc carries the vaccines recommended by the Ministry of Health under the National Immunisation Program for your child.

We administer the vaccines safely and comfortably in your home so that you do not have to bring your child to a doctor’s appointment and get exposed to the germs that might be present at a clinic.
